The Sorcerer 2018

Photos of last year's concert, courtesy of Tricia Slater.

Constance and her mum are not sure about the vicar's sermon!

'Welcome joy, adieu to sadness.'

Alexis extols the use of love potions.

'My name is John Wellington Wells.'

I'm really not sure I should be helping to brew this potion!

The villagers gather for Alexis and Aline's engagement party.

'Now to the banquet we press!'

The potion begins to take effect.

For once they're actually not supposed to be watching the conductor!

'I know not why I love him so.'

'Love me; I'll stick sunflowers in my hair.'

'I go to my family vault!'

'Die thou!'

'Oh my adored one!'

'Beloved boy!'

'Now to the banquet we press.' (again)

New concert, new choruses (new to us, anyway)

We have opted this year for a concert of G&S pieces, rather than a complete opera, in the words of your MD 'to show you off to attract audiences and singers by a) the high standard of singing in KB and b) the variety of music that we sing'.

There will be music from old favourites:
The Yeomen of the Guard
The Pirates of Penzance
The Mikado
HMS Pinafore
The Gondoliers and
The Sorcerer

plus some from three operettas new to KB:
Utopia Limited
The Grand Duke and
Princess Ida

We had a high old time last week learning 'Eagle High' from Utopia Ltd (sorry my pun use isn't up to Gilbert's standard!), 'Won't it be a Pretty Wedding' from The Grand Duke, and 'Walls and Fences Scaling' from Princess Ida.

Next week we will recap these and revisit the wonderful dual chorus 'Welcome Gentry' from Ruddigore, so if you own a Ruddigore score please bring it with you.

This year's AGM will take place on Friday 21st September at Carnon Downs Village Hall. We socialise after the AGM; please do bring a plate of food or something to drink. Raffle prizes are also always welcome!

The postcode for the hall and a link to the hall on Google maps are on the Programme tab above.

Welcome back!

Rehearsals start again next Wednesday, 12th September, for another exciting year. It is going to be a little different on many levels but it will be the usual mix of fun and hard work. There will be a warm welcome for anyone who would like to come along to see if they would like to join us.

Rehearsal/performance pianist needed

Hello to all our members and followers. We need your help.

We are looking for a rehearsal/performance pianist to support us though our next season - starting in September 2018.

Please tell any of your musical friends in Cornwall who may have contacts who could help us out.
If you direct them to this blog for information it will let them know how we work.
We are also on Facebook as Gilbert and Sullivan Cornwall. There is a link to the Facebook page on the right hand side of this blog.
If people wish to make contact with us, they can email our Secretary via the Join Us page on this blog, or leave a message on the Facebook page and our MD will get back to them to discuss.
